Here's a story:
I had driven down to LA for a friend's birthday. We were sitting around his apartment, trying to decide where to go for dinner. He's a White Castle fan (grew up in Chicago) and had heard somewhere that a White Castle had opened up in downtown as a publicity stunt for some movie. So the dozen of us all piled into my windowless cargo van and we headed out in search of the legendary tiny little hamburgers. We drove for hours (it seemed), in circles, fruitlessly. After passing the same spot a million times, we finally pulled into a weed-filled abandoned lot next to a seedy looking bar that in no way looked like it was currently or had ever served hamburgers. We worked up the courage to go into the bar and asked if they knew anything about the disappearing White Castle. Alas! The White Castle had only existed for one night, on opening day of the movie. The movie was still showing down the street, though, if we were interested ...
So we piled back into the van and headed to the multiplex. We settled into our seats, hungry, tired, and looking for entertainment to distract us from our woes. I mean, sure, we weren't hungry for long because we did all get snacks at the movie concession stand, but we were perfectly primed for the story of two brave young men who, despite the obstacles thrown in their path, just wanted to go to White Castle! I fell in love and have been gleefully following the adventures of Harold and Kumar ever since!
