A bunch of text and one unexciting photo
Nov. 17th, 2006 12:20 amAh, yet another indicator that I'm obsessed with slash ...
I was explaining my plans for the evening to my housemates last night. I planned to spend some time reading*, so I could find out whether Our Hero vanquished the Evil Alien and also if his One True Love was really dead. All this was met with the usual nods, but then I let a pronoun slip:
So, continuing with the het theme, I'm giving fair warning that I'm about to embark on a series of het photo posts. I expect there to be nine separate sets of photos once I'm done selecting and photoshopping the images. Never fear, slash fans - we'll return to the regularly scheduled slash programming eventually.

"... and so he teleported to an alternate dimension and saw someone who looked like his One True love, but he wasn't sure if she was real or -"
"Wait! She? What kind of story is this? That doesn't sound like slash!"
"I do read other things ... no really!"*For the curious, the book in question was "Trapped" by Alan Gardner - set in the same universe as the excellent "Expendable".
<skeptical snickers from everyone>

Backstory on the upcoming photo series
In exchange for doing some house cleaning, I traded a few hours of modeling with the husband (H) and one of the housemates who I'll call D. Like many of the "deals" I make, I'm not sure what the other people get out of it, but since they agreed I'm not complaining. D and I had gone to the local party supply store to shop the after-Halloween sale (South Bay / Silicon Valley residents - mark your calendar for next year. Diddams has several locations and almost everything is 80% off the day after Halloween. It's best to hit them early in the day though, 'cause stuff goes quick!). Upon returning home with our arms full of costume goodies, we found that the costume wardrobes were full with no room for new stuff. Over the next week I embarked on a crusade to clean up and reorganize the whole costume/sewing room. It was going pretty well, but I needed an incentive to stick with it over the weekend. I proposed to D that if I spent all day Saturday cleaning, perhaps a fair reward would be for her and H to model the new costumes. D agreed and H only grumbled a token amount, which I took for agreement. He likes to pretend he's indifferent, but he's been looking forward to doing more photos since the cowboy shoot.
Here's what was on the menu:
All the other props and costumes we used that night were already in the closet or somewhere around the house. I must admit that at least some small part of the reason I take these photos is to help justify my packrat tendencies. "I might need it for a prop" is a great reason to hang onto all sorts of crazy stuff. Anyway, we had a good time deciding what to do with each costume and picking out props. We did get a little punchy toward the end ... Whoa! I just checked the time stamps on the photos ... we shot for just over four hours ... no wonder we were tired! Once again I am grateful for my amazingly tolerant and patient housemates.
So last but not least, let me introduce my lovely volunteers, H & D, pictured here at the beginning of the evening as they speculate on what they've let themselves in for.

Here's what was on the menu:
- Bellhop costume
- Ringmaster costume
- Pumpkin Witch outfit
- HP wizard hat
- Elastigirl (Incredibles) jumpsuit
- Wolverine (old comic style) jumpsuit - didn't include the claws, though, which was a bummer
- Red Racer (car racing?) jumpsuit
- Vampire Slayer costume - not a BTVS-style slayer, though - this outfit would have been more at home in the movie Blade - the package said something about "The Covenant", but I haven't heard of it ... there sure were a lot of different "Covenant" costumes though.
- Goth Garland - with a name like that, how could I resist? Besides, it went well with the slayer costume.
- some other stuff that we didn't end up using ... maybe next time!
