2006 Post Halloween Sale

Way back in 2006 I did a photoshoot that I'm just now getting around to posting. The backstory is here. I posted the first picture (Bellhop), but after that I slacked off and never got around to photoshopping the rest of them. Then my models decided to go on strike and told me that I didn't get to do any more dress-up photoshoots until I'd cleared out the backlog. So, after much procrastination, here they are in one huge post (dial-up users beware)!

Batman
Ah, gotta love the classic Batman look. As much as I enjoyed the recent film adaptations, sometime it's good to revisit the past, too. :)


Wizard Duel
This joke never gets old for me, as silly as it is. I just love to do hokey special effects with still photography. Poof! She's turned him into a frog, just like that.


Pumpkin Spice Butter Beer
Speaking of special effects, I really think there's a lot of potential to use animation (in this case an animated gif) to portray wizarding photographs. Someday I'll get around to trying it for real. The animation's pretty clunky here (mostly because the photos weren't planned as an animation), but I've decided to rationalize it by figuring they wouldn't expend a lot of magical energy on a disposable bottle label ... it figures it would be lower quality than a fancy wizarding portrait or even a candid snapshot photo. Also, if I were a writer, I'd totally work up some story tying this and the previous photo together ... maybe she wins some big wizarding dueling tournament and then cashes in on her fame by endorsing products. Her favorite gig is definitely as spokesmodel for that German brewery; they keep her supplied with all the butter beer she can drink. :)


Popcorn
You know, I'm not sure I can really explain what's going on here, but I can definitely remember thinking it was hilarious at the time. I think it was along the lines of those dreams where you inexplicably find yourself naked in a public place ...


Elastigirl
Superpowers are cool. Here it looks like Elastigirl is having some fun letting her suitors fight over her.

Quiet mechanic Samantha finally gets up the nerve to tell Rachel the Red Racer about her secret crush.


Paranormal Blind Date
This was the last set of photos we took that night and we were really getting sort of silly. We made up this whole elaborate blind date scene between a vampire and a vampire slayer ... something about internet dating and a confusion about what listing "vampires" as an interest might mean ... but now I can't really construct a coherent narrative from the actual photos I took, so I fell back on the poster edges filter and unintelligible text to try to make this look slightly cooler than it really is. Oh well, at least it has a happy ending. :)


Vampire Slayer
I thought I should include some non-posterized pix of these costumes as well. This pre-packaged slayer costume was so oddly specific, but as far as I can tell it's a one-off and not inspired specifically by a particular movie or TV show. I love that there's only one sleeve on the coat (though it does reduce it's re-usability in other contexts) and the retractable cross-blade gauntlet is pretty awesome. The thigh holster is full of throwing knives, which is just cool.


Vampire
The vampire costume was assembled from various old parts, although I think the fingernails and fangs may have been new (not that the fangs are actually visible in any of the photos, sadly). The wig is from D's extensive collection and the tiara I bought at a garage sale. The dress was bought for a beetle costume from a past Halloween.

Actually, the fangs are pretty noticeable. At least, for me. Since, you know, I'm always watching for them. And red eyes which might indicate zombie infection. and unusual hair growth once a month.
