Have I mentioned how entranced I am by genderswap AUs? I love it when a plot device suddenly changes someones gender. I adore it when we're in an alternate universe where they've always been girls. I find it fascinating when it is revealed that their biological gender and their gender presentation don't match.

Under the cut are the 5 pieces of art I created for Con.Txt ('cause I only seem to make things on a deadline these days). As will be apparent, I got a little obsessed with the idea of McKay and Sheppard as girls. :) Enjoy!

Small images below the cut, larger images available in my gallery here

Genderswap McKay and Sheppard
This was the first pose from the day's photoshoot. Pretty straightforward background; I was going for a generic offworld location look. While my backyard is full of non-alien-planet-type-things like fences and flowerbeds, my rooftop view looks enough like Canada to pass for the Pegasus Galaxy. ;)

Both characters are holding their iconic props. The ZPM worked out great, and managed to last almost all the way through the shoot before starting to fall apart. The P-90 was serendipitously provided by one of the models and I'm so grateful, because I really think it adds a lot.

The only bits of photoshop magic are the Canadian flag and Atlantis patches, and the color of McKay's jacket (which was originally blue).

I continue to improve my tracing skills! I feel like I'm drawing, but with training wheels. It's pretty fun, actually.

For the hard-copy print of this, I added thick shiny clear paint over the ZPM and then traced over the interior lines with a sharp pin. It made for a neat three dimensional effect.

Girl!John
Same as above with the tracing and 3D paint on the gun. I'm really grooving on the minimalist style since it's so different from my usual.

These first three pieces I finished the night before I left for Con.Txt; I still had a few ideas I wanted to try, but I was quite happy with these alone.

Genderswap Control Chair Kiss
In a stroke of good luck, I had a slow day at work and got to leave early. I had several extra hours at home before my flight to try some more aggressively experimental techniques. I'm really glad I did!

I was a little skeptical of how this would work out - when taking the photos I'd sort of hoped I'd be able to photoshop in a control chair from some promotional photo, but alas I couldn't find one at the right angle (this must be why people learn to draw for real!). Anyway, I ended up going for a deliberately cartoony/stylized look for the chair and background. The perspective of the chair relative to Sheppard still looks a little off to me, but overall I think it came out OK.

I'm certainly glad I was able to complete something rather than just have it linger in limbo-land. Also, I couldn't just let all that hot girl-on-girl action go to waste ... it's much more respectable to take pictures of people making out and then share them with the world ... if you just keep them for yourself folks might think you're creepy. :)

Atlantis Comics
This last piece came together just in time. I grabbed the fresh print off the printer and dashed to the airport. Once in Maryland I realized I hadn't photoshopped the jacket like I had intended, but it was too late then. I've fixed it in this digital version ... hopefully the person who bought the print is excited that theirs is one-of-a-kind rather than sad that McKay's jacket is blue instead of grey. :)

I used on old Batman comic book cover as a reference for the layout. I think the barcode is a cute touch ... it says "Naked Bee" thanks to an online text-to-barcode converter.

I think this one is the most satisfying piece because it carries it's own explanation in the work itself ... not that it's terribly subtle with "Genderswap" in large green text in the middle, but still there's something compelling about it being self-contained.

Also, I have to sing the praises of my two fabulous models. They put up with clambering about on a slanty roof while nosy neighbors looked on and were generously accommodating when I ordered them to take their clothes off (having entirely forgotten that I'd advertised this as a fully-clothed project!). You gals rock!

As the person who bought the print, I can assure you that I am completely happy with it. :)

These are gorgeous! (Or were. I did see them when the images were showing up!) ;) And I meant to say, on your zpm post, I love it a lot. You made it, like, somehow actually LUMINOUS.

Beautiful!

The Girdle of Masculinity/Femininity was always one of my favorite magic items in AD&D.
